Once harvested, the cork sheets are piled outdoors and put to rest for a period of 6 to 24 months, after which they are boiled. During boiling the cork undergoes an important chemical and physical transformation: flattening of the cork sheets, elimination of parasites, extraction of tannins and soluble minerals.
At this point the cork is carefully classified according to its thickness and quality. Only the best cork sheets are used for the manufacturing of cork stoppers.
